why won't my computer recognize my cd burner?

I have a P3 450, running win98SE, and it's had a Sony burner in it for quite some time now.

Recently, I've had a problem. Ran the regular burning program as usual, and now it's not detecting my burner.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled Easy cd creator 4.0, switched to 5.0, nothing will work.

What can I do?
 
yes I did. Did an aspi update...maybe I did the wrong one.

I'm on Win98SE, so is aspi32.exe the correct one? When I run it, it says, "already updated"
