Why won't my BH6 boot off CD-ROMs?

No matter what I set the BIOS boot order to (CD-ROM, C, A / SCSI, A, C / anything else), it never boots off a bootable CD-ROM. What on earth is the problem? This has happened with every BIOS I've flashed to, and every setting I could think of. The CDs I try always work in my Sony VAIO, but on the BH6 in my homemade PC it never works. I have a Creative Labs 2x DVD as master and a Memorex 2x2x6 CD-RW as slave on my second IDE cable.

Rrrrrg.

Believe me you're not the only one. I had the some problem when using BH6, and BX6 Rev2. I don't know if this has something to do with Abit motherboards or what. The strange thing is when I formated my HD for the first time I was able to boot from CD-ROM, then 4 months later when I had to reformat it wouldn't let me no matter what I did in bios.

I have a friend who use to be able to boot off of the CD-ROM on his BX6 Rev2 also, and for some mysterious reason can't anymore. He doesn't know why.

My BH6 1.01 works fine to boot off a CD, make sure you have the Drives set to auto and not none as they default to if they aren't hard drives.

Make sure that you have autodetect turned on in the bios for your dvd so it finds it at boot. Even if it doesnt at boot win will still see it, so you might not realize its set to none. Happened to me a week ago.

I suspected that, obeseotron and bigshooter. I'll try that next time I boot, as I always confirm "none." Thanks for sharing, NOX, and I'd suggest trying auto-detect as well.

Go to abit and get the new bios update and what type of cd are you using.

My Abit BM6 never has booted from any CDROM drive attached to it no matter how it was set in the bios and I know how to set up a bios to make it boot from the CDROM. I have flashed the bios on the BM6 with the latest code and still no boot. The SAME CDROM drives boot just fine on my Asus CUBX and MSI 5169 and FIC 503+ board with the exact same settings in the bios. It must be something with my BM6. My friends BM6 boots fine off any bootable CD and with my CDROM drives installed in it. Otherwise this BM6 has never given me a problem but having it not boot from a CD especially when installing NT and Linux has been a minor pain sometimes. Oh well I don't use it much anymore now that I have the CUBX. It's just a backup system.

Edit: Just to be sure it was not a problem with my CDROM drives when I logged off here I rebooted and set the bios on the CUBX to boot from the CDROM and put in NT Server and Vola, booted right off the CD with no problems. It has to be something with the Abit BM6 I guess.
