confused here... mom calls me at 8PM on sat saying that the computer turns on but doesn't beep!

thinking it was user error, i checked it hte next day and she was right...

The mb still gets power to it (green LED on mb is on when psu is connected to it) but when i push the power button, it does not post or make any beeps. This is a pain in the ass for me to troubleshoot, since I'm scarce of socket A parts. First, i tried flashing the cmos, but nothing happenedstill get power, but no post. I tried sticking in different ram sticks, still get power, but no post.

update: i just swapped PSU's to a psu i had lying around... green LED lights up, fans spin, but does not post!

update2: put the hd connected from that computer on an external enclosure and backed everything up. the HD isn't fried :-D

can anyone give me any clues? I really hope the MB isn't dead :(
UPDATE 3: PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!
i didnt know replacing the CMOS battery would make it post, but it sure did!!!!
I think it's time to put this thing on ebay and get my parents a laptop anyway, didnt realize how much these things went for!!!

if no beeps occurred .. it usually means you have a psu or board related problem....

you've already ruled out the psu.. assuming the 2nd one u tried is ok.....

.. so let's look at the board ...
1) disconnect all of the ide/sata drives.. and any other peripheral... Basically you want to try posting with just a video card and single stick of ram..

2) try reseating the video card ....

3) is the heat sink on the processor sitting correctly ? that could cause a problem, which could prevent the system from posting....

4) if none of these help.. then I would removing the motherboard from the case and try posting with just the video card and memory... to rule out a short between the board and case...

one other option may be to try replacing the cmos battery .. cheap enough to try...

hope this helps

i'm gonna try getting a new battery... bios savior isn't worth $20, at least for this board.
