Why won't Dell answer a simple question?

Scouzer

Lifer
So upon a few people telling me this brand may not work with Dell, avoid this, etc. I decide to email Dell for a solid answer. I give them links and information to two types of memory and ask a simple question: Will these work in my system?

Four days later, I get a reply:

>Here is the quote on the 1gb memory sticks for the Inspiron 9300 notebook. The quote is priced for 2 x 1gb memory sticks. You will recieve an addition 5% discount off the price.
>
>Please call me at 1-800-387-5752 ext 5578 or respond via email to the quote.
>
>Thanks,
>Amin

The price - $320. Yeah, good deal. I ordered for $210 CDN shipped overnight. Simple question, dumbass answer.

So I do an angry spontaneous reply:

You have to be kidding me. $320 for two sticks of RAM? 5% discount? Gee, thanks. Lets try 30% to offer less padding to Dell's ripoff margins.

And the kicker...you guys totally ignored my REAL QUESTION. I wanted to know what 3rd party RAM worked. I had to get an answer from a vendor by calling them since Dell is too retarded to give me any assistance. Total cost = $210 shipped overnight. What? Oh, the Dell RAM will still be covered by warranty unlike the RAM I will install? Definitely a $110 benefit. You are right. My bad.

Not to mention it took four days for this non-answer to my question.

No wonder the consensus is avoid Dell at all costs these days.

Have a great day,

Dave.

JLGatsby -- i did, on two different forums. no answers

Why not? They guarantee compatibility.

What I don't understand is why you are asking Dell. Ask the Memory Vendor. If they don't know, use someone who does.

Dell only have a responsibility to give you best effort support on 3rd party memory. It's not mission critical that your lappy gets more RAM.

Its a simple question to someone who knows.

And as for no Crucial...I'm Canadian. Buying from Crucial incurs duties + shipping + USD to CDN = $300+

Not to mention their RAM was head to head $40 more expensive than the OCZ I've ordered.

Why should Dell know about the configuration of OCZ RAM? What if the details you supply them are incorrect, they say it's OK without proper testing and it doesn't work? You'll be pissed at Dell.

You should have asked OCZ, not Dell.

They us ISA (industry standard achitecture), that said, many vendors could have helped you thru that problem, at a lower cost.

Every parameter is given to you on the crucial site. DDR2 PC2-4200 ? CL=4 ? UNBUFFERED ? NON-ECC ? DDR2-533 ? 1.8V ? 128Meg x 64

What more do you need? 😕

Exactly. Even if you won't buy from Crucial, in just 1 minute you know EXACTLY what your computer needs and what it can handle. It is always my first source for that information.

Everyone knows Dell charges a 50% premium for memory (that is where Dell get's its profit - sell the base computer at a loss and sucker people to buy the upgrades). That is why we buy the base model and scrap the basic Dell 128MB of memory to put in 3rd party memory.

Why would Dell tell you how to buy from other companies?

I was told the specs yes...but I was told many companies do not work with my Dell. So I went to the source to end the confusion. Little help.

I bought RAM from Dell today. It was over 20% cheaper than Crucial.

And just about any RAM will work with a Dell.

And you believe everything that's told to you, especially by those who want to sell you overpriced parts?

It's obvious that there is a huge conspiracy to dump Dell hardware north of the US border.

CAN'T YOU READ BETWEEN THE LINES, MAN!??!?!
