DX 8.1 with Detonator 23.11 freshly installed. On dxdiag display "test direct3d" I get this error: Direct3d test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3d device) HRESULT = 0x8007000e (Our of memory). How can I get D3d Going? TIA!

OK with 23.12 still the same problem. When I clikc "yes" to test it says it is testing DX7 interfaces...why would that be, or is that normal?

It is normal for it to test DX7 first. You might want to use that detonator destroyer and remove all other video drivers completely before upgrading to the 23.12's.

Hmm... odd... I'm running GF3 Ti200 too and D3D works fine except in older games. When I run dxdiag, I also get hardware accelerated DX7 tests, but after that I get hardware-accelerated DX8 tests too.

Problems with D3D make sure you have DirectX8.1 installed as well as the latest Detonator XP 27.42 drivers. The 27.XX drivers improve D3D performance. Check out the high poly 8 light test results I got with 3DMark2001SE (in my signature).

I tried the 27.42 and got errors up the whazzoo, it kept asking for various disks, which is silly since it was a download... any other ideas? Also it seems that detonator destroyer is only for win 9x

EdIT: Damn, now i can find the disk (silly location problem), but it seems saying things like it can't copy nvdesk.dll because it can't find it...

You might find a faster solution by backing up your files, and doing a clean OS install.

I have no problem with that but fear the problem will come again :( I've been meaning to format for a while though. Looks like tonight is the night! Hopefully this will work...thanks all.

Whoa the 27.42 are awesome.

Yes they are, compared to the 21.83 WHQL drivers I was using they really rock. I don't have any errors ever and D3D programs run so much faster it's not even funny. It's sick that drivers can boost so much out of a video card. I also have my GeForce3 Ti 200 overclocked to 220/530, so that's also why my system might have beaten yours.

Uninstall your old drivers first. Then when you are installing the 27.42 drivers make sure you don't have any Norton Antivirus enabled.

Go to Guru3D for the drivers. :D

He doesn't need to reinstall the OS to update his drivers. That's silly.

jonmcc33, Skoorb has already tried the uninstall/reinstall driver method (as well as other suggestions) and things are still FUBAR. Instead of spending 5+ hours troubleshooting to no avail, spend a few hours doing a clean install since he has not done so in a long time.

Well I'm back up now. Although I'm still barebones on my win2k I have some recent nvidia drivers going and dxdiag is a go, so I imagine everything is fine now. I think the problem is that some crap was still hanging around from when I had a GF2 mx installed on here. That is my guess anyway because dxdiag was showing ?? as memory before and now it knows what I have and in some display settings elsewhere there is more specific info for my new card.

The system was in bad need of a format anyway so everything seems to have worked out :)

Did he try the Detonator Destroyer program that's located at Guru3D.com?

Well I'm back up now.

Good to hear, sorry that you had to go through a reformat just to solve the problem. I know that solves problems sometimes but I usually try everything I can think of before going that route. It helps me learn. Give me your benchmark scores with the 27.42 drivers when you can, I'd like to see how your score increases. You'll love how that high poly 8 light test improves.

I've never played Counter Strike. That'll be something I have to remedy.
