Why won't CPU work with my mobo??

I have an Abit Fatal1ty AA8XE mobo which is right now running a Socket T LGA 775 Pentium 4 Prescott.
I want to upgrade my processor to a new Pentium D (also Socket T LGA 775). However, Newegg says that my mobo will only work with "Intel Pentium 4 EE HT/Pentium 4 Prescott/Celeron D." On an Intel site they recommended the Abit AW8-Max for a mobo to use with a Pentium D, which Newegg says can run with "Intel Pentium EE/Pentium 4 HT/Pentium D."

So my question is whether or not a new Pentium D will work with my Fatal1ty mobo??
If not, why not?

Thanks in advance.

It's the same LGA775 socket, but the 925XE chipset doesn't have support for multiple cores. So sadly, no Smithfield or Conroe for us 🙁. That is (was) a nice mobo you have too.

If it's a BIOS issue, you can get a BIOS chip from Abit for $6 US.

Now, why in the world are you getting an Intel again? OMG, the Intel dual cores communicate through the Northbridge chipset according to some people here. Ouch.
