Why won't an AGP card work in this board?

Just put together and Antec Aria with an MSI K8TM board, I am trying to get it to boot, there are no peripherals except RAM and CPU, the video card is a Radeon 9600 128MB, I get not video just beeps, so I?m thinking it is a bad video card so I tried an old PCI card, it works, then I tried the Radeon in another system and it worked in there, so the card is good. So now I am figuring maybe the AGP slot is bad, so I tried another AGP card and it worked, I just can?t get this Radeon to work in here, there are no jumpers on the board that have anything to do with AGP, and all the BIOS settings seems OK, any ideas?

just tried another Radeon 9600 and it doesn't work on this board either, FWIW, the AGP card that did work was an old Geforce 4MX card

Did you check the beep code out? If not what was the pattern and were they long and short beeps? My first guess is there is a compatibility issue between that particular series of card and the board, but the AGP could still be borked or a signaling issue perhaps? If the G4MX was 4x and not 8x that might hint at a problem with 8x cards. Can't see how it could be PSU related with just a 9600 either.

Thanks for the replies, I tried another Antec 400w PSU, so low power is not it. As for the beep code it was 8 beeps which seems to simply mean "no video" well no sh&$ MSI that helps a lot.

a friend of mine has a 9700PAIW that has issues with certain mobos because it pulls too much power when it is turning on - it isn't that high of power draw when in use, but it apparently pulls a lot when starting up, leading to incompatability issues with certain mobos. this was true with both my Fortron 530 and his Antec TrueBlue 480.
