Windows 10 1809. Actually it happens since Windows 10 was released. It can happen on any machine. Randomly.

It happens all the time, especially when I tried to click the touch keyboard tray icon, and sometimes even clicking Windows Start icon the Windows Start menu won't show up.

The only way to solve this is to press CTRL-ALT-DEL then logout and re-login.

This morning I just boot up a machine, and in just a few minutes, doing nothing but browsing and it happens again.

Anyone?

12 hours past and it seems the above PowerShell method did fix the problem!

Hope it sticks. :D

Yeah, had this happen with prior Windows Upgrades, something around 1709 or 1803. Very frustrating. Something with the system shell process, not receiving mouse clicks.

Does anyone know, can this happen to an up-to-date Windows 7 64-bit as well?

One of my friends was complaining about his Mom's PC, not responding to mouse clicks, and taking a long time to shut down (Win7 64-bit).

I suspected in his case that the HDD is going faulty, but I haven't had the PC in my possession to check for certain.

I don't remember anything similar happened to Windows 7 PC.

Why not remotely access your friend's PC using TeamViewer? Check the PC's Event Viewer see if there is any disk error?

I hadn't really thought of that; that's a good idea... although he also said, it shows "no connected" to internet after 5 minutes.

And if he can't click on any tabs in the web browser, I'm not so sure that he would be able to click the buttons on TeamViewer to let me remote-access.

Ask him to download CCleaner and run it to clean up Windows & browsers cache.

Also run chkdsk & sfc /scannow on C:

If not connected after 5 minutes, maybe his wired/wireless adapter is dying?

Another Windows 10 machine always lost keyboard/mouse response after a few minutes.

Executed abobe mentioned PowerShell script did not help.

Then I remove the keyboard from device manager, then reboot.

Keyboard driver reinstalled. Bingo! Problem solved! At least for now. :D

Well, not completely fixed. But happens less often. :(
