Why why why do my debit cards keep getting declined?

TallBill

Lifer
I have a bank debit card and a paypal debit card. My bank card keeps getting declined for no reason, and has no online support. Paypal isn't responding to emails about why that card is getting declined. I cant call my bank, and I cant deal with any of this. No regular phones here. This sucks!!!

Perhaps they think Osama has your card.

On a side note, you can use your debit card in that corner of the world?

If it has a Visa or MC logo...why not?

I just use it online to sites that ship APO. Currently I'm trying to use Steam and Magic the Gathering: Online, and am getting declined up to wazoo. Most places have a PX that you can use cards at too, of course where I'm at there is no store.

more details. makes no sense with given info.

I'm just ranting mostly. Boredom is setting in HARD, and I wanna play some games! Hopefully Halo 2 will come this week in the mail.

I had a problem at one point with my card being declined because I spent more than I was allowed to in one day on my debit card - there's some sort of safety feature to limit purchases in a day to 1 or 2k in a day on the card. My wife used the debit card to pay the mortgage, electric, gas, etc. bills online... I drove to Buffalo (over an hour away from me) and bought a kayak as a summer gift to myself - my card was refused as a debit card despite having way more than enough on it. IIRC, I switched over to using it as a credit card and it went through. Compounding matters, as a physics teacher, I occasionally have some powerful magnets in my pocket and had erased the magnetic strip on all my cards... I had to provide plenty of ID as to who I was 🙂

There's probably a daily limit on your card. You may have exceeded it. Additionally, merchants are known to place "holds" on your card for a greater amount that they actually end up charging. The holds go away once the true amount settles, but in the meanwhile, the holds lower available account balance.

My debit card gets declined also. I can use the wifes card and it works fine. Our cards have different numbers but go to the same account. Newegg told me that there might be a spelling difference on how it is recorded at the bank and how I enter it at Newegg. The bank assures me that everything is correctly spelled on both ends. I'll just use the wifes card or my Paypal debit card.

Perhaps Mel's Bank of Trailerland is not a good bank

switch banks

any bank without an 800 number or a website
