it is okay at 720p but if I try to output 1080i my windows are squashed
is it the refresh rate?or what is it?
and also something I have been wondering is if BD and HD-DVD downscale their 1080p to 1080i or 720p if you don't have 1080p

yeah, but i mean what exact resolution, in pixels. I would assume 1366x768, but i wanted to make sure.

and yes, the HD formats will downscale to probably whatever you tell it to, unless you have a really crappy TV.

Just for the record, is this 2.35:1 source video?

42" plasmas have a native resolution of 1024x768. Send that to the monitor via the HTPC. Anything else and the display needs to convert it which = a loss in quality.

edit: Actually some sony's may have a resolution of 1024x1024 which may be causing the problem. Check your specs/manual and see what computer resolution it says you should output. 1024x1024 is a bit odd, but that's Sony for you.

;) What I was thinking. My Toshiba has 4 frame settings and one will chop off SD 2.35:1 if set to it. But not doing HD and was not confident that it was the same issue.
