WHY.. when I right click, does the installer for adobe acrobat show up everytime?

I'm getting so mad at this thing, everytime I want to view the properties of a file, or whatever the purpose is -- when I right click any file on my pc, the windows installer starts up and proceeds with installing "Adobe Acrobat 8.1.0" ... wth?

I'd start by uninstalling and reinstalling Acrobat to see if that fixes it. You can also poke around in \\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\* and see if it's mentioned in there anywhere.

I every thing I own of Adobe, still happened. I then realized that the "windows installer" always fails during the time the adobe acrobat stuff pops up, so I downloaded the newest version of Windows Installer... Still happens!

sounds like you installed or updated it at one point but didn't let it finish so it keeps trying to finish when you right click for some reason.
I would think that actually re-installing acrobat reader, having ti check for updates, install any if needed, opening up a pdf file or sorts to do any configuring if needed, then uninstalling it, then run crap cleaner on top of that to fix it...

It's back.. I uninstalled the old version (8.1.1) and installed the new version (8.1.2) and now I get the installer popping up for that now when I right click.

Yes, I've the same problem - right click on any file/folder/anything! and acrobat (8.1.0) update installer prompts! And above advice didn't help. Are there other known issues related to this? Had some serious virus problems (braviax/total security) som days ago and, as far as I know, this didn't appear prior to that (virus is gone though). Or is it related to hardeware? Have an old DELL Laptop.

Ok, found the sollution here (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au...plies.cfm?t=906404#r8).
Remove following register keys:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shel?lex\ContextMenuHandlers\Adobe.Acrobat.ContextMenu
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\C?ontextMenuHandlers\Adobe.Acrobat.ContextMenu

Perhaps not the most ideal sollution as it also removes the "combine files" command in the right-click menu (not in the app though). Nevertheless, it sounds like something for Adobe to look in to in the future.

not trying to be a thread crapper, but if it's only acrobat reader you're having problems with, i got rid of it a long time ago and went with foxit reader.
