Why were you not suppoosed to talk about Fight Club again?

MX2

Wasnt really my cup of tea and I ended up never watching it all the way through. So whats the story?

Because it would lead to lots of people joining in, spreading the word...setting up franchises.
Tyler Durden doesn't like franchises. Jack doesn't like franchises.

(Mentioned during Bathtub scene) When Jack the Narrator was growing up, his Dad deserted his family, left town, married someone new and had kids, started a new family - he repeated the process every 3 years or so. Tyler says, "He's setting up franchises"
Franchises. They hate franchises.

Edit:
JACK
Oh, yeah.
(nodding)
I didn't know my dad. Well, I knew
him, till I was six. He went and
married another woman, had more kids.
Every six years or so he'd do it
again -- new city, new family.

TYLER
He was setting up franchises.

SPOILER ALERT B!TCHES read no further if you haven't seen the movie

Well since you asked, "Jack" and Tyler are one in the same. If people talk about Fight Club, they talk about Tyler. And Tyler didn't want Jack to find out they were the same person, which is also why the first and second rules of Project Mayhem are, you do not ask questions. Also why he made "Jack" promise never to talk about Tyler to Marla.

Not quite, Tyler himself starts setting up franchises towards the end of the movie, he wanted Project Mayhem to be worldwide chaos. He just didn't want Jack to find out and dick everything up.

But it does explain why they hate pretty much anything successful. They believe 'their' franchise is the anti-thesis to corporations. Besides, they do start getting crazier as the movie progresses and lose control - power tripping, maybe. Starts out as an underground fighting club and becomes an Urban Terrorist Outfit - they lose track of their initial motives. But the movie is such that you can pretty much form your own theories about their actions.

Fight Club was the preliminary to Project Mayhem, Tyler's motive was there all along. It was his way of helping people like Jack hit bottom, and they called it their gift to the world. Project Mayhem was just the next step and the medium through which Tyler wanted the world to be the way he thought it should be (his speech after the car accident before he leaves Jack alone).

Because if you talked about it, you'd violate rules 1 and 2. Duh.

And you're not supposed to break the rules. If you are in Fight Club that is. If not it doesn't matter.
