I have a desktop pc with 3970X@5GHz and TitanXP.
usually i can only use my small 14" laptop with a bad, unestimated, uglyborn GT 750M

but at he end, how many games i can t play with my terrible underpowered laptop ?
The witcher 3, titanfall2,Watch dogs2. that s all.
90% of my games library is totally playable
50% of my library (with all the most played games on steam) are playable MAXED OUT.

when you upgrade, you need to have one game in mind, what s your game ?

if you had bought a generic computer that you put together yourself you might have saved enough money to purchase a laptop with a decent dedicated gpu...

but to answer the question, usually the latest battlefield game or similar fps (even though i don't really play fps's)

i have 3 custom made pcs, i was asking

for what game you upgrade your pc ?

many of the most played games can be maxed out with old hw

If you're a gamer, you need to build a computer where you can change your video card like a NASCAR pit stop.

I suppose I'll upgrade my GTX 970 once I'm no longer capable of playing games at 1080p 60 fps at high settings. So maybe this year, maybe next.

This and its exactly why I've never looked at laptops as a viable solution. The 3k "gaming" laptops don't count because of 3k plus staying with the same graphics card.

I don't. I wait until some game does not play at the settings and resolution that I want.

My CPU is still an i5-2500. I did finally upgrade my GPU from a GTX 680 to a 980 ti in late 2015 for Fallout 4 since the 680 was having problems in some areas at 1900x1200. I have not bothered to get a 1080.

I'll probably upgrade to a 7700K or Ryzen later this year, partly since I want a RAM upgrade and a newer motherboard.

I don't... It took my 5 or 6 year old video card dropping dead to make me upgrade to a new budget-mid-ish Nvidia 1050.

I do when needed. I kept my GTX260 until 2 years ago. Main reason was I wanted dx11 and another machines onboard graphics pooped out. I went with an open box 280x which I'm sure was used for mining.

I only upgrade when I start to find the latest games I'm playing aren't running well at maxed or high settings. Most games I can withstand playing at just high settings at 1440, but once I get to a new game and it runs like shit on high settings, I start looking to upgrade. When I do upgrade, it's usually just a GPU first, then I wait a few more years and do a whole new build.

I can't tell you what game will make me upgrade, as they don't exist yet. I might be able to tell you what made me upgrade, but I tend to not upgrade based on one game, but when I feel like I'm constantly fiddling with settings, and never feeling like I'm getting the results I desire. I eventually upgrade so I don't have to mess with settings often.

I upgraded recently (around June/July), but it wasn't for a specific game, it was just because I felt after 8 years of not upgrading my ram, motherboard, or CPU, I was due for an upgrade. I also upgraded my GPU (to a GTX 1070) after 5 years with a GTX 460 1GB. I'm glad I did though, as I really got into ARK - Survival Evolved, and my old PC would not have had a prayer of playing it smoothly on high or near-max settings.

I've never upgraded for 'a game'. It's more of an average. Still running a 2500k but I did upgrade a gtx480 to a 290x sometime last year. I guess at this point what will tilt me to upgrade is VR in general, but so far haven't needed to.

I went from a 2500k and a 290x to what I have now, I constantly think that was an unnecessary upgrade. Don't get me wrong, I like my setup now, but for what I paid and what I do with my system, the 2500k would have been enough for another couple years.

I bought new CPU+MoBo+DDR4, just need time to assemble them and set up a new system. but i'm still clinging to my GTX680 until May-June when new cards come out. playing older games and non-demanding games until then.
i will be upgrading for Witcher 3, Deus Ex MD, Dragon Age Inquisition, Fallout 4, Cyberpunk 2077, some other games.

I only play FEAR Combat and Age of Empires 2 HD anymore, so I stopped caring.

If I upgrade my gtx 275, it will be to a low power low noise low cost video card. That will allow me to play new games on minimum settings anyway.

I'm not even sure if I like single player games anymore though.

Modded Skyrim, 7 Days to Die, and a few other titles. 4k requires more frequent upgrades plus I like to mess around with new hardware.

What are you doing with 7D2D? The game works fine on my modest system. Even worked fine with my old GTX260. I've started using mods and they don't run as good but they're still very playable. *oops are you playing @ 4k?*

I recommend valmods Classic Horde Survival
