Why was the "Best Forum Software" thread closed

I just read pretty much that entire thread and ALSO would like to have a reasonable answer as to why that thread was locked. I REALLY hope that is wasn't in some way politically related to FuseTalk. Would we lock a thread on Intel because the servers are AMD based? What about closing down threads on Mac/Unix/Linux etc because the servers are MS based?

Please either choose one or two

A) Provide some sort of logical reason that the thread was locked
B) If it was locked because FuseTalk then someone needs to put a sticky at the top of each page saying so.
C) Unlock the thread

Joe

The Mods aren't the only ones who lock threads!

If they choose none, then we're never allowed to know why the closed it (even if we might disagree with thier logic).

You find it acceptable that a discussion of forum software in the Software - Apps, Programming and Games is disallowed?

I find it acceptable that the mods can delete/edit/lock whatever they want without an explanation. I agreed to that when I joined. So did everyone else. This isn't a democracy, it's a modacracy and, if they choose not to explain, I get to choose to go with that or go elsewhere.

If I really wanted the mods to explain something to me, I would send a PM and explain what bothered me and ask if they could help me understand. I wouldn't post a demand for actions that I have decided are appropriate in a forum that isn't even actively monitored, but that's just me.

Eh... I suppose my post did sound somewhat demanding. I guess because I've been around so long (1996 or 1997 sometime I think) that I do feel some ownership of the boards. Not ownership like possessiveness, but owner ship like a person feels about a community they live in. When I occasionally see something that doesn't seem to fit with the general openness that Anand has always displayed here I think I tend to get quickly defensive FOR the community. I fully realize that no one but Anand "owns" these boards, but I believe that many feel a connection to the community that goes beyond agreement to terms of service.

Regardless of what certain people think who either are mods or who have been good little boys or girls to gain their favor, I do think that this was kind of ridiculous that the forum software thread was locked. Yes, the mods can do that, because they were given a "blank check" of thread locking power by the head of AnandTech, but that doesn't mean that what they did in this case had any logic or sense behind it. I'm sorry, but I would like to know why, and I think we have every right in the world to ask, even if getting an answer is optional.

Maybe some of us have been around for long enough to not wanna leave the boards because a mod locks a thread for apparently no reason, and would prefer to get an explaination instead.

Ok, so people shouldn't discuss Forum Issues in the Forum Issues category. Right, that makes sense

Thank you for the reiterating the TOS that "anonymous mods/users can unilaterally do as they please" as the answer to all in this community forum because obviously we all clearly were ignorant of it. Why are you so defensive against this request? Did you lock it?
