Why was the ATOTFTP thread locked?

It seems as though everytime they turn out to be harvestors of either illegal activity or content not suitable for AT, but what the hell do I know.

So, the new one is guilty by association?

The old FTP threads lasted until the FTPs themselves died, and I wasn't aware of FTPs being banned around here, especially when blurredvision promised to discourage copyrighted material.

Is there some rule I've missed, or was there flaming in the thread I didn't see?

Given the crowd in OT the chances of that happening are slim to none. Also, I wouldn't hold my breath for a response to this question...

Well, as soon as a mod locked my thread (was on chat with devioustrap when it happened), someone went in there and started deleting stuff (basically everything but a couple of folders). Was it the mod? Who knows. Eric (devioustrap) was helping me check dreamhost's options to see if I could set permissions to only read and write, not delete, which he found that I couldn't even if I wanted to. So I went ahead and took the entire thing down, otherwise I would've left it up. Hell, we had gathered 1.2GB of random stuff in little under 10 hours, so it was pretty successful in it's time.

If by some weird chance Eric was wrong, and there is a way to set permissions, then I'm more than happy to throw it back up for you guys and just let the word spread without creating a thread. The mods have never told me or posted here that it wasn't allowed, they just didn't like the thread, right? If they are silent, so be it (I'm not looking for an answer, anyway). 🙂

i think its the same reason that other threads get locked...some self-righteous mod comes along and think to themselves "i want to be an ass today"...pics out at random a thread on the front page to be locked...and the ATOTFTP one was just the unlucky one at that time of day...

Did you find out who (IP address or host) was deleting stuff?
