Why was the ATOT effect request thread in OT locked?

Threads like that have always been allowed in the past.

yeah, i'm confused. i've never seen a thread locked for asking for the ATOT effect before?

I don't know for sure, but perhaps due to the nature of the contest being a sizable prize instead of just a "you win!" type system? Mod may have not taken kindly to the fact that popularity of a forums can influence a poll enough to fix a contest for money?

no, there have been several where the people won prizes or trips. most notably Lolawiz's chili's or whatever it was. that went on forever and may have even been stickied (not sure about that though).

ok, so what about all the vote for my friend's band or vote for this chick, she is my friend threads? they didn't get locked

I thought that all ATOT effect threads were locked. I think that if they are worded such as to say... "Vote for who you like best but my friend is <insert name here>", they were generally overlooked by the mods.

If I remember correctly, this started back with the thread about the little kid in a "pimp my bike" contest that lead to accusations of cheating and fraud and had a lot of little kids heartbroken.

Ultimately, everyone won though. The kid who got the AT effect got a prize and the people hosting the contest gave a duplicate prize (or somesuch) to the other kid.
