Why was my topic locked?

Firstly I have to admit the topic didn't 100% fit the category, however, I picked the best forum category for my topic and it still got locked. Here is the topic. I think it got locked because of a few comments by trolls. It started with the troll Schfifty Five, then intogamer suggested a slightly unscrupulous workaround for my question, then kindest responded to intogamer "please review the rules of the forum." Then another troll RMSistight, thinking kindest was remarking on my original post, added his 2 cents, "Wrong forum son." I think a moderator saw these trolls' comments without taking into account the topic itself and locked it. Again this was the best category for my topic, and aside from the trolls, the posters responded accordingly. I think Anandtech forums are one of the best on the web, tons of good info. But trigger-happy moderators who don't explain themselves can ruin that goodness.

As a Mod here, I feel your pain. I have been here over six years and I can't tell you how many times I have been frustrated by something. It's usually by some noob who doesn't know what they are talking about and has no problem casting aspersions and running off at their mouth. What ever happened to to being civil and knowing what you are talking about before opening your pie hole?

but if you will note, a deal was posted within the title itself, thus one of the posters responded, "hot!". But yes I was asking for advice (how does that translate to rant?). If there was a better category I would have put it there instead.

Edit: I suggest Anandtech:forums change the category title from 'Hot Deals' to 'Shopping' or somesuch. Hot deals would of course still be posted there, but posters could be a little more flexible in their discussions.

also what you would call a TROLL actually gave you some good advice--
Schfifty Five - why don't you just call them first instead of making a worthless thread?

of course he could have left the word "worthless" out of the picture

The point is there are rules about what you can and can't post as threads in Hot Deals. You didn't bother to read them. You got your thread locked. Now you can read the rules and follow them or the mods will continue to lock your threads. The same thing applies in FS/FT, Highly Technical, P&N and Forum Issues and maybe some others. This doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out (except maybe for the unwritten rules, but you'll know when you break one of those .) With over 140,000 members, allowing each one to decide where the best place to post is would result in chaos.

Good luck on your future posting. I'm thinking you're going to be needing it. 🙂

I suggest you browse hot deals for a while and see if you can get a sarcasm meter cheap. 😛

The posters who said "wrong forum" were wrong themselves. It was the correct forum... however, such a post belonged in the stickied thread at the top: Brag & Moan

Actually, one time I ordred a video card, then after sleeping on it thought to myself, "WTF are you doing?? You won't be happy with that card!"

So I called NewEgg to upgrade, but it had already been shipped. The rep I talked to told me to just refuse shipment. So I did and then ordered the card I really wanted.

I'm willing to bet if you called them and talked to them about it they would adjust the price for you. They are really good with their customers that way.

He has 20 posts and gets a mod quote?!?!? SHEESH!

In any case, another clue to an elusive Mod's identity has been provided, boys and girls...look for members that have a join date prior to September, 2006. 😀

Hmmm... that would include over 140,000 members. We're zeroing in, all right. 😉
