Well, i dont know how man site regulars are fans of the Tribes series, but Tribes:Vengeance came out in like october of last year, buggy as hell, and disappointing game imbalances...but fixable. Vivendi promised a patch delivery in 12/04, and kept pushing that date back...eventually to 3/05, all the while NOT speaking to the community whatsoever, taking ZERO input and giving ZERO feedback. Just a couple days ago, VUG announced (unbeknownst to Irrational Games, the company actually making the patch) the patch will not be released and they will not support future updates.

Talk about screwing your consumers!!!

here's a link if anyone cares to read the whole 9.

That's ridiculous. When you buy software you expect it to be alive for a period of time. You can't expect it to always be patched and supported, but 12 months isn't unreasonable.

This should get a class-action lawsuit. Selling a game based on a promise of a fix then not delivering on the fix.

You know what though, the game wasn't that great to begin with. Most Tribes fans were disappointed. I never played Tribes and I was disappointed. I traded it in for HL2 :/

The bad news is that Tribes will probably die.

The good news is that the game type should contiue on with better support than companies such as VUG are able to supply.

Legends/Renegades

The two will be working together (rubbing each others' backs in a sense) to develop an alternative to Tribes based on the TGE/TSE engine from GarageGames (the company that has been updating the Torque engine used to create Tribes 2). The good part about this is that the games should be closer to what Tribes fans expect in such games, as well as the fact that they'll be completely free.

Yeah it sucks that VUG screwed up Tribes, the cool part is that the community seems determined enough to take back their game.

Wow, just like Tribes 2! :p

I was a huge fan of the original Tribes, but Tribes 2 was disappointing, and miserably supported. I guess Vengance is no different.

It's a shame, really, because Tribes 1 had such a great community with lots of back and forth between Tribes developers and players.

wow, that is pretty horrible.

I too expect about 12 months of support from a (primarily multiplayer) game after it hits the shelves. I can't imagine how pissed people who bought the game must feel.

Tribes was one of my first FPS games and I loved it.

Tribes 2 would have done better if it wasn't so buggy at release. It's ok now but really turned off a lot of people.

I played the beta of Tribes:Vengeance and was not impressed. It's like they really dumbed it down for the noobs.

What happend to the magic captured in the first one? It died when Dynamix died.

Hopefully someone will be able to pick up Tribes and return it back to its former self but I seriously doubt it.

Tribes2 Classic mod was incredible. What they did with TV, like you said was dumb it down so any noob can walk in and start killing people because of dumb stuff like the way they made the tank, pod, buckler, and mortar.

I could definitely like the buckler and pod, but they unbalance the game so severly it just hurts the pubs.

The maps also are rediculous because of imbalanced bases/sides.

Guess Tribes will be dead forever...shame too cause they had it all...innovating gameplay, team strategies, rewarded skill, HUGE loyal community...damn shame.

Wow. Doesn't surprise me. They fvcked up Tribes horribly with stupid Vengeance and it's arena style garbage. Tribes used to be a much cooler game, not all corporate appeal to everyone crap like Vengeance. Good riddance.

Yep....

http://www.blizzard.com/inblizz/profile.shtml

Blizzard Entertainment is a division of Vivendi Universal Games, an operating unit of Vivendi Universal. Vivendi Universal is listed on the French stock exchange (#12777) and also the New York Stock Exchange under ticker symbol ?V.?

Thank god they seem to be giving them somewhat of a freehand.
