I've just dl'ed a utility from which makes it possible for me to update my BIOS from inside windows.

I'm using win2k so I was a little sceptical about it, but iy worked!!!. I've just updated my BIOS from version 1005 to 1006 from within win2k and had no problems at all :D.

It works for several Asus mobo's so if you have one try check it out, it's really nice. And now the need for dos is allmost gone. Hopefully it want take long for other companies to make it that far too :)

Hmmm, dono 'cause my german sucks :D. But the only file you need to dl is the Liveupdate326.zip :).

Happy BIOS-Updateing...This program rocks!!!.

The only thing I don't understand is why we can't backup the old BIOS?!??!. But okey I guess the idea with backing up the old BIOS was a way to save ourself from troubles if we dl'ed the wrong BIOS :)

I tried it with the P3V4X and it said it couldn't recognize the EEPROM chip.

you dont need any prog. wazzup wi dis?

Extract your unzipped (or "unbatched") .bin or .rom bios file and your flasher.exe file to the same created folder, say C:\BiosCrap. Also make a file "BiosBooBooBacup" in "C"
Shut down (to clear RAM) not reboot. Wait ten sec to discharge.
boot to POST, keep tapping F8 for safe mode, step by step option, hit "n" till you get to "C" prompt. Type in FULL path to flasher, run it, steer flash to full path of bin file (may autoexec run - thats one reason why boot floppy with "other" autoexec.bat doesn't work flash properly). When backing up, steer to BooBoo.
I will guarantee in writing this will work every time, In Windows, no floppy.

C:\_.... cd BiosCrap (change directory)[Enter]
Example 1: C:\BiosCrap\>AMIFL530 A37A.ROM [Enter]
Example 2: C:\BiosCrap\>AFLASH ------ [Enter]
(file nameprompt)C:\BiosCrap\P3V4X105.BIN (extension changed from .awd by you PREVIOUSLY!)[Enter]
(This named BIOS is 6/13/00-256KB)

Remember ALL CAPS, BIOS file must have .BIN (Award) or .ROM (AMI) extension
If you want to be totally sure, disable video shadowing in bios.

Hmmmm Bozo, does that work with NTFS partitions?!?!. 'Cause if you restart with win98 bootdisk you can't see any partion which is NTFS and I have NTFS on all my partions/disks.

Anyway that's a great program and I'll guess that it want take long before it works for the P3V4X :).

BoZo: Maybe you should try such a program before you make any statements, 'cause its great and I don't have to do all the crap you do, I just run the prog restart my comp, reset the BIOS and *VUPTI* I'm done :p. That can't be much more easy...

Hi Bozo Galora:

___I have been using the F8 --> Safe Mode Command Prompt only for flashing BIOS' for years because I never did trust the FD. The problem with this method is under Windows Millennium or Windows 2000 Pro, you have no such option to get to DOS. It is either a Boot Disk or this great new Windows Flash utility.

___I am very glad to hear about this as well because I hate that FD no matter how useful it has been in the past.

___Good Luck
