why underclock?

Hi, I'm pretty new to the technical side of things, and I was wondering what the benefits of underclocking are...

Does underclocking a video card make it last longer? Maybe powercolor is hoping to slip by the warranty period?

It will not necassary make it last longer but It will produce lesser heat. Meaning you can attach a lesser fan on it to make it quieter...
