i am mainly talking about FOX/CBS/ABC/NBC/CW (and HULU) etc.

almost all their tv shows are available on their website to watch for free. coupled with XBMC this works great on your tv as well.

now, why don't they release this on "other devices" - say mobile phones, roku, etc.

i am sure it has to do with "making more money", but seriously, whatever business model works on the computer must work here as well?

note: with XBMC available on phones, one can watch all these on phones too - well, may be not for the mass population.

I swear, I thunk about it everyday, just let me watch the content on by comp, put all the commercials you want and maybe even more, but just give me the option.

Couple of things though -
1. XBMC is not not legal.
2. There are two types of channels, Broadcast and Network, they have different licensing, cannot but them on the same boat.

It has to do with licensing.

The networks do not own most of the shows, the studios do. USA would love to make all of their shows available on all mediums, on VOD, HULU, everything. But they have to have agreements with the studios for that, which costs money. You are talking free services, so its not as simple as when networks negotiate for TV rights.

If you are on twitter, check out @tedontv

He is a studio exec for USA network that loves to answer these kinds of questions.
