Why the hell won't sp2 install correctly?

Okay, I've been trying install sp2 for Win2k. I just did a clean install of the OS and am trying to run the sp2express installation. Everytime it will download the update files for a little bit (sometimes a few seconds and sometimes a few minutes) and then I get an error saying that the data is invalid and that I can either retry the download or cancel the service pack installation. What's going on? Is there another way to do this?

That's what I'm saying.....I'm not even able to finish downloading the files before it gives me the error. I also noticed that if I click "retry" then the number of files to be downloaded increases every time.

Hmmm.. you're either having connection problems with your ISP or with the Microsoft site you're downloading it from. Since the SP2 is relatively new, the traffic might be still very high. What's your connection speed btw? if you're on some kind of broadband, it would be better to get the full 101MB file from a mirror site.

Shooters: What kind of connection do you have?

I have a cable modem and I was getting the same problem. It got to be a real pain but I put up with it. When it FINALLY got all the stuff it needed, I ran the installation and then it crapped out in the middle and said it couldn't find some certain file.

Whatever.. I just downloaded the big mutha and did it that way, seems MS's express installation is still in the beta stage :)

I have a LAN connection which they claim is T1, but I only download at about 15-20kb/s. I'll just download the whole 101MB file.....it'll just take a while.

Thanks guys

i'll just burn that and save it for later. =)

That brings something up...

Has anybody else set up sp2 yet? A friend of mine at work just did it, and then couldn't access the "properties" on any drive or folder. (y'know, right click, select properties to get sharing, security, etc.) It worked fine on actual files, but not folders or drives.

Fortunately, he opted to backup the old files, and was able to revert.

ouch! 15-20k? Should have downloaded it when the file when Microsoft didn't announce the release yet. Like a day before the release. Now I bet hundereds are downloading and causing major slowdown.

No, it's not the Microsoft site that is causing my slow ass download speed.....it's the ethernet connection in my apartment. I always average around 15-20kb/s. I guess it's better than dial up, but I think I should be getting at least 5 times that speed for $35 a month.
