Go watch Scrubs.
It's so you can think about yourself and your own weaknesses. Possible more useful than being told crap by someone who doesn't pay much attention to you or what you do.

That's a self-asessment, which has become ubiquitous with a performance review, in many places.

To a certain extent, I think self-assesment should be a very minor part of a review, if not part of a development plan, which is (or should be) something different, altogether.

Just sent mine in today. On the brighter side the execs announced they would be paying bonuses+raises (as they have for the 3 years I have been here) and checks would be cut 12/1. Woohoo!

This sucks! I have no clue what to write without sounding conceited. :)

everyone is required to do this. i had to review my supervisor and it was a whole lot easier.

hah i have mine sitting on my desk right now too, this is my first one and i don't know what to write. Only being here for 2 months doesn't help either.

We have to do it all the time. First we do our own review (what I did well, what I can improve on), then your appraiser adds his/her comments

I had to write my own performance review, so I just pretty much gave myself 10/10 in 90% of the stuff. Then in my review meeting, I had to justify my answers. It was fun.

That's the point, people are scared give themselves good reviews because they may have to justify it later or they are afraid to sound conceited, so it becomes quite a truthful review. Also by having you do the thinking, your shortcomings will be more apparent to you and you are better set up to improve.
