Ok i have a P3 600B with 128MB PC133 ram and a voodoo 3 3500.

I am runnin it at 1024x768.

and I am only getting 30 thats right 30 frames per second.

Any Help?

Isn't there a switch in UT for max/min desired frame rate??? I got one you can set it to what you want and the game changes detail settings accordingly to give you that FPS...

- Are you running in GLide or D3D mode?
- What options do you have enabled? (3D audio, etc).
- Did you remember to shut off vsync both in the game and in the drivers?

Ok, I am running Glide.

I do not have 3d audio enabled.

I have dynamic lighting and the one underneth it.

Please tell me how to shut off Vsync in the game and in the drivers.

That is the only thing I did not do.

UT is werid for benchmarking

I have seen benchmarks from all sorts of systems

from a 800 geforce2
to a 550 TNT2

it seams like they all max out around 35 or so, even on low resolutions.

Weird eh?

I say, if you don't notice any slowdown... ignore it.

Hmm... I think the numbers should be better than that, Packet, on a well-configured BX system at least.

My system is below. I get 40 fps at 800x600, with everything maxed. I get 38+ at 1024x768.

The vsync thingy is in the advanced config menu (Tools, console, then type preferences in on the console). Look for SlowVideo Buffer. Check both Rendering and the GLide section.

Look for a 3dfx tweak utility for the V3 line. I don't know what the specifics are for the V3. They used to put it in the control panels for the V2, and it's back in the V5.

Ok, I turned the Vsync off and now I am getting a average of 35FPS.

That is a little better but not the best.

I need to get at least 40 FPS is there anything else I can tweak to get it higher?

Hmm... 35 fps with UTBench (if that's what you're running) isn't bad. My computer's significantly faster (Celeron 897) and I'm only getting 38, everything maxed. Mind you, I'm only running 180 MHz, with is slightly slower than your 3500.

You can get faster speeds by tweaking down the detail.

Bah this is all bullsh!t I get smooth (85% of the time) gameplay in UT on my Cyrix downstairs.. it was choppy but juuuust playable on my P83 in 320x240 with everything (and I mean everything) shut off... I play with high quality in 800x600 on the Cyrix.. it looks to be about 40-50fps. My cousin's P3-450/64MB gets 55-60fps and takes longer to load + the game starts off at 1fps for some reason till it gets going... guess my banshee/cyrix is a better combo then p3/tnt2.. *sigh*.

No, the 40 fps I get is in UTBench.dem. (It's not on the disc - you have to download it.) The numbers are low because it is a fairly intense bench. With the flyby I get around 60-70 or something like that. In real play I can sometimes get well over 100 fps in very simple small rooms but usually more like 40-90. And AnandTech's reviews, the number are in the 50's because they use their own bench (AnandTech.dem).

So if you're giving numbers, you gotta list the benchmark. If you're getting 40+ in average play, I find that too slow - harder to do well online. I prefer 800x600, everything at max, since at 1024x768, the video quality isn't that much improved. There is a slight, but noticeable, performance improvement with 800x600 over 1024x768 on my Celly 897 MHz, V3 180 MHz system.

Oh really? Then you're right. 35 FPS sux.

Install it.

Go to the console by pressing "~"

type "timedemo 1"

type "demoplay utbench"

press "~" again.

When the demo is finished, go to the console again and press "~" to see your score.

Any bench below 30 fps is too slow for me. I prefer at least 35, but even then it gets slow at times. However, I'm not a hardcore gamer.

are you running the intro timedemo? I run it and get 65fps

I got a

Guillemot Hurc. GTS
p3 850E@1130
256sdram (crucial)

Resolution of 1280x1074.

But when I had my v3 3k in, I would get 35fps with it at 850mhz.
