You're shopping at Walgreens and complaining about the price.

my friend put batteries in the fridge to extend their life. does that really help???
i thought the cold was reducing battery life in those electric cars

Yeah, I saw it on Mythbusters or something similar. The room temperature batteries lasted longest in RC cars. Of course, it only addressed short term, not how well they keep a charge in storage, but the putative difference shouldn't be enough to matter if you use and replace the batteries at least every couple of years.

In fact, it could be dangerous...people could toss batteries in their freezer, thinking they'll be good forever, never test or replace them, and then not have power in an emergency years later. False information is far more dangerous than no information.

Batteries have some of the highest markup of all the crap you buy retail. Seriously. Like 3-4 x markup. You buy something for twelve bucks, they paid three and change to their supplier. Sucks, doesn't it?

Still a lot of electronics parts places also kill you on shipping to just need to buy in bulk.
I bought a 5-pack of Sony CR2032 from an Amazon seller. Price was pretty good, shipping was cheap, and they weren't counterfeits, as far as I could tell.
