Why the heck are my MP3's skipping on my dads machine.

Its an emachine with a P3 @ 800 Mhz 256 Mb ram with onboard sound/video and a 30GB maxtor hdd.. I dont seem to understand why its skipping when playing winamp off my harddrive.

it would skip even when I am surfing on the web or using word (which I have open and typing/correcting something in there)

any help would be appreciated.

Do other sound bites (wav files) or anything sound related skip also?

the windows start up song and others are running fine..
I dont have a big wave file.

My old PII-400 would skip on mp3's when I didn't reboot for a few days.

i rebooted it just now.. still doing it still.

Dont say its an emachine.. my friends emachine doesnt do this.. there must be something wrong. And dont say my mp3's are corrupt.. i use them in my mp3 cdplayer in my car. I just copied the cd onto this machine and started to play it.

Are you in win2k? if so it could be due to the smooth scrolling in IE.

Either it's your Emachine, or your mp3's are corrupt.

If your using WinAMP, check the buffer size for the MP3s in the preference setting. Maybe its too low?
