Chapter skipping, title menu, and main menu buttons do nothing. I can fast forward them but it momentarily gets caught at each chapter change. I remember why I pirate movies now.

Oooh. Been waiting for this. Took very long for the DVD to come out. I seen this in early July.

All of the Redboxes by me are checked out. Video store is a ripoff: every movie is 5 day for $5.

Prohibited User Operations - prevents the user from doing certain things.

Forced advertisements like that on something I already paid for is pretty annoying.
Fortunately, some DVD players - and I believe some software players like VLC - ignore those pesky PUO flags.

IIRC most of the consoles w/ built in DVD player have been able to get around such things. I'm not positive though.

I agree, absurdly annoying. When I buy a DVD with that issue, I usually rip it and reburn just the main movie. Then let the original collect dust in a closet.

The manufacturers are encouraging you to pirate, obviously.

prohibited operations are a total joke, and an insult to my intelligence, etc. shame on them.

It's just like when they had trailers at the beginning of VHS movies... you had to fast-forward through them (or watch them). With DVDs they usually give you at least one option to skip the ads, you just have to figure out which one it is (menu, chapter skip or fast forward).

What's annoying is when they put ads on TV show DVDs. I usually watch one or two episodes of a show before I fall asleep, so I end up having to go through the same stupid ads every night. Fortunately they usually only put the ads on the first disc.

This drives me bat shit. The whole reason I usually watch a movie is b/c I hate the commercials on TV. So you plunk down the $$ for a DVD or BR player, pay your $$$ for a rental and then have to sit through that bull shit... f'in pisses me off.

This is why you rip the DVD straight to the hard drive getting rid of all the fluff and BS so you can watch it on you Media Center or PC. I don't want or like the "extras" on DVD so I remove them to not waste space.

Most DVD ripping software has an option to remove the Prohibited User Operations, so you could even keep the entire thing intact if you wanted too and just remove those flags that tell you're player not to let you skip forward, or jump straight to the menu, or whatever.

Is this the first DVD you have ever watched? It's a PITA for sure, but nobody does it quite as Nazi like as Disney.

Anything that I know has this crap on doesn't go home with me. I'm not going to support their efforts to make me watch anything I don't want to. If I'm paying for the movie, I should be able to skip anything I don't want to watch. I used to just buy anything that caught my eye, now I usually rent before I even think about buying anything. Since I hate going to the rental store, this has cut down my buying by at least 50% in the last 2 years.

I still wonder why you have to watch ads for something you paid for. Hollywood isn't doing themselves any favors in the fight against piracy when at every turn they make the pirated material seem better and better.

Don't want copy protection?
Don't want region protection?
Don't want to be forced to watch ads?
Don't go to Hollywood.

MPAA: If you want to fight piracy, come out with a better product. People might actually feel sorry for you if they didn't feel like they were the ones you were aiming at all the time.

This is why I had never noticed it, my Xbox 360 usually lets me skip to main menu, this is the first movie I haven't been able to. I usually rent/pirate but this movie was entertaining enough to buy.

I am severely annoyed with it.

I cant believe nobody mentioned the DVD players that are region-free and ignore PUO.
Also, VLC media player ignores all that shit.

Well sure, but Disney is evil, so that's to be expected.

Best bet is to probably rip to an AVI then you can do whatever you want. I'm assuming ripping has been made possible by now with bluray... have not done it myself.
