I've got 2x512 on an A7N8X Deluxe too, but running XP. It tells me I've got 1,00GB, so ligically that should mean it sees it as 1024. 1022 would be 0,99GB or something.

Windows 98 hardly uses anything over 128...It would be best if you went up to Win2k!

weird ;) Don't feel like spending $100 for OS. I know that people said that Win XP is more stable but I am not doing anything mission critical.

I though using less memory is a good thing :) .

Yeah its like that.

I think its due to this reason but I'm not sure though:

They give you extra as they don't bother to calculate exactly how many bits etc so the number quoted is the min you get I'm *guessing*.

Anyone else have a *real* answer here instead of my guess!

256 = 256 * 1024 = 262144
512 = 512 * 1024 = 524288
1gb = 1024 * 1024 = 1048576

the number are all marketing....with harddrives you technically get screwed since they use a different scale

120GB = 120 * 1000 =120000 / 1024 = 117GB

Ram is a little harder to screw with since there is addressing issues, but one day some manufacturer of hard drives thought about what if they counted a GB as 1000bytes instead of 1024...and then everyone else had to follow suit to compete.

Cool man. Thanks for clearing that up.

Just to let you know..

Windows98/SE has a bug where if you use more than 512MB of memory, it kills performance.
