Why spend hrs making the turkey/sides when you can spend $50 to buy at the supermarket?

or buy at Boston market.

Why spend 4+ hrs + effort to cook the turkey, and makes the sides? Plus the cleanup afterwards...

Because some people enjoy the togetherness, the tradition, and the fun of cooking dinner and having everyone pitch in.

Something like that.

Because cooking something that's better than what you can buy and having a lot of people enjoy it and compliment you on it is worth it.

Well it is for me anyway...

Most people can't cook. That's a fact. It's a fact that most homecooked turkey tastes like crap. But people like to think they can cook and it makes them happy.

it tastes better and not dried out eating turkey that's been cooked maybe a day or two ago.

i doubt the supermarket takes the time to brine their turkey for 12 hours, do the scalding method or whole apple stuffed in it or other methods to keep the meat tender and juicy.

More fun. when you suck at cooking its about the adventure not the result. You'd be surprised what tastes good.

We had store-cooked turkey and side dishes for the first-time this Thanksgiving. The turkey was pretty good. The side dishes were just okay.

Of course, it all depends on where you buy your cooked turkey dinner. I wonder how many people who claim their home-cooked Turkey tastes better have actually tried a store-cooked turkey.

The supermarket local to me in Texas will do all those things upon request.

Because there are some things in life that aren't about saving time or being convenient. You can bake pies. You can buy pies. But bought pies don't leave your house with that freshly baked oh soo good smell.

There's a bit of tradition in picking out a bird, mastering the art of cooking it, and then making your own gravy and stuffing to go with it.
