Why so much hate for Detroit?

Is Detroit really the shit-hole ATOT makes out to be? What about the rest of Michigan?

Oh look what I found:

Never been but when your cash cow leaves, i.e. Auto jobs, and the city council is made up of idiots that think they can tax their way back to the glory days its all failure from there.

Most here say the outside of Detroit, Burbs?, are ok. But the true detroit city is what has become junk.

I was in Troy (Detroit suburb) for business about 2 year ago...pretty nice area...however, we passed the crap part on the way there....there was burned out house you could see from the freeway (near 8 mile)...

Troy's nice, but there are plenty of nicer suburbs in the area.

Love the Detroit hate 😎

Are you serious?

Go read the wiki about kilpatrick, wayne county, and what's happened over the past few years. That place is ridiculous, and reminds me of how the gov't is run in the movie Idiocracy

Detroit really is a craphole. 10 mile radius from downtown. .
That's not really true; Grosse Pointe is very nice and within Wayne County. Also, there are some very nice areas inside the Detroit city limits like Boston Edison (http://www.historicbostonedison.org/).

Finally, I don't think that bottom right picture is Detroit although I will admit that's the Detroit skyline in the picture. There aren't any shanty towns around Detroit to my knowledge.

crap standard of living

high murder rates

and worst of all, its right next to Canada.

Hey - latest report has murder rates down again. We only finished as the 3rd most dangerous city in the US this year so things are looking up!

And we are turning Windsor into Detroit Jr 😀

There are actually some nice areas of Detroit and out lying areas but there are some real shitholes too. I have definately gotten off at the wrong exit on I-94 felt like I should probably not stick around

I lived there for 20 years. I lived all over wayne county, starting at Brightmoor on Detroits West Side (a middle/lower class white neighborhood until the 70's). Redford, Westland, Inkster, Romulus, Livonia, ypsi, west bloomfield, troy, Detroit proper (7/grand river, 8/telegraph)Eventually ending up in A2 before I moved down to America's Wang.

Its a craphole. Any place where there are multiple square miles of unoccupied, boarded up, graffitti'd, homeless people and gangland used skyscrapers in the downtown area - there has got to be a problem.

The last 10 years have been the worst. The criminals that managed to get elected (starting with coleman young from as far back as I remember) simply shook the city down until kilpatrick essentially ass-raped the last few cents. Every project had an interest, whether a contractor friendly to those in charge or a family member who was slipped business or outright received money stolen from the treasury.

Back in 1994 I distinctly remember my mothers old friend we visited telling a story about a woman who was carjacked and shot in the chest and left on the street to die. The friend ran to a police substation for help, and the officers inside were smoking crack. They told her to go away and call 911...

The house in which I lived from 0-4 was a crackhouse in 1989, burned down in 1992, the basement filled with water and used to dispose of dead prostitutes and crime victims for a number of months.

Until I moved out of MI I never thought it was abnormal to have crackhouses on just about every street and abandoned utility and factory buildings everywhere.

They ought to bulldoze the whole city from Telegraph to the river and build a farm.

As for the rest of Michigan - Its great. Its awesome if you love nature, trees, hunting, rednecking, cold, snow, and lakes. The west side of the state (LP) is typically inundated with snow (lake effect) and once you get up past Flint or so its fairly rural except for the coastal regions.

No, it really is true. A few blocks of nice homes does not make a shitty city a nice place. There are other nice areas too but once you go a couple block s in any direction you are back to burned up/borded up/vacated business and houses and vacant lots with 3ft high weeds. And just living in a nice area doesn't keep the crime away.

I love Michigan.
I don't care for Detroit.

Downtown detroit is mostly burned out buildings with the ocassional condemmed building that hasn't burned down yet.

In "Robocop", Detroit is a much wealthier and safer city than in reality.

Doesn't Detroit have the highest density of liquor stores? They must be partying hard for some reason. Maybe its 2012, Boom!
