Why so many "rate my rig" posts?

Im not trying to disrespect those that do it, but why? It used to intrigue me like 3 years ago, but I dont even open them anymore...theyre all basically the same...agree or no?

They're good on other sites, like xtremesystems and ocforums, because the rigs there tend to be interesting or strange in some way. Like a custom silent water cooling setup in a custom machined case, or six dual Opteron boards stacked on top of each other and running as a cluster, and everyone goes 'oooooo' 'aaaaaa' 'coool'.

I think people hare try to emulate that.

I know some of them are noobs like me who just want someone with greater perceived know-how to pat them on the head and say "Good job kid. Now go put in your order and quit bothering me." And why search when you can get the instant gratification of that? 😛

Yeah, the search function is horrible, maybe somebody should work on fixing it, I mean it has only been what five years? Unless the search function didn't always exist, I wouldn't know because I haven't been here long enough.

Fixing the search function has been beat to death in the Forum Issues forum.
Almost a guaranteed Locked thread now.

The search function used to work very well many moons ago before the upgrade.
Supposedly, fixing it has been put on the todo list, the bottom, that is.
Stick around another year, maybe then.

Meanwhile ... 🙂 . .. 🙂

When I was building my first rig, I knew almost nothing and did a lot of research before coming to these boards to ask for advice on my rig. Had nothing to do with bragging rights and everything to do with asking people who were more familiar with rigs if mine was put together correctly and what changes people would recommend. I got a lot of valuable input from this community and it helped me build my rig. So I think people should feel free to ask. I did.

And by the way. No one is asking for help from people who don't want to give their help. Just don't open those threads.

I also stopped openin them considering they are annoying and I figure someone else will tell the what to get probably won't be as good as my opinon but it's not my computer so I don't really care.

The ones that make me mad are when people ask what to buy without doing any prior research or at least trying they just want you to do everything for them I can understand if you did research found some things you want but are stuck on lets say a motherboard or ram thats understandable but when someone posts a thread what should i get basically with there price limit it pisses me off and I think we need to stop answering those because they have became increasingly popular and taking over General Hardware.

I don't even bother opening a thread where the person gives a price and then asks for a build. I will be more than happy to help out those who have researched their rig and want to check it before placing an order. I think those are legitimate requests.

i don't understand what all you kids are crying about, if someone is throwing down 2 grand for a system they trust anandtech and want to put up a thread asking for an OK to make sure everything is good before they order. If the threads bother you so much, dont respond to them..

Yeah, let's ban all new threads, period.

Finally, somebody got it right 🙂

Most people just post everything in General Hardware and ignore the specialty forums,
so why create them ??

almost every system is different, its not like everyone is trying to built the same pc and like a user said a above before you blow away alot of money you are looking for "approval" from the experts on this board.

Are you kidding?
What's different... the MB and memory?

Pick 100 "rate my rig" threads in this forum and tell me how many aren't core 2 duo "which CPU variant" or "what memory/mobo" threads 😛.
