Do black programmer choose different sort algorithms than white ones? Different design patterns? Or are we just talking about someone who will suggest urban flavor for the Google home page? Maybe an easter egg in their logo that links to some fried chicken and watermelon.

I was talking about the Asian continent (of which India is a sub-continent) vs. North America. You can't have a country without borders.

Also I always thought Mongoloid went the way of Oriental vs. Asian. You also can't use the term Negroid, but Caucasoid seems fine.

In fact, whites make up a smaller and smaller percentage as time goes by. There are not huge number or percentages of blacks but there are still quite a few.

When I started in the industry whites dominated but they were from all over the world -- places like Germany, Hungary, France, England, etc. Today, while whites probably still make up the single largest group the percentage of Chinese and Indian has grown substantially, particularly since the mid 90's.

I don't know where CNN get's there data, but I can say with certainty they haven't a clue!

When it comes to stuff like this, asians are often classified as caucasions or lumped into a white/caucasion bucket. I've seen a lot of studies where it'll say something like

white* - some stat
black - some stat
hispanic - some stat

*note: asians are included in this category

What they really want to analyze is lower class culture vs middle/upper class culture which roughly boils down to hispanics/blacks/etc vs whites/asians/etc.

According to some studies I read about university computer science programs, the major has become increasingly white and increasingly male since the 80s.

This is purely anecdotal, but I double majored in computer science and electrical engineering and saw a difference between the two majors. My computer science classes were 98-100% male and 90% white. My electrical engineering classes were 75% male and 25-50% white.

Google's problem is that they higher based on merit and problem solving abilities. Part of their interview process actually requires you have to be an expert at something and demonstrate your ability to excel at your position by problem solving, etc.

Clearly they need to get away from this model because it is discriminatory in nature in some inexplicable and unclear manner and has horribly allowed them to succeed as a business. They need to totally focus on race and gender above all else in their hiring practices. Everyone knows the best engineer at a tech company is the person who has be socially promoted into their position for politically correct reasons regardless of their skill at their chosen speciality of engineering or their ability to problem solve or work within a group, etc. By the way a field of study known as engineering is something that cool kids ignore because only stupid nerds and minorities trying to act "White" attempt to study.

Isnt it the responsibility of the individual to garner the appropriate education to gain such a job? If the minorities are not interested or educating themselves in tech jobs, of course they will not be filling tech positions. I dont see why this is a big deal? A company wants to hire the best person for the job, if the minorities are not seeking the appropriate education then of course the companies will not hire them.

This. Diversity for the sake of diversity is dumb. The merit of the individual matters, not their color.
