why should i need a smart card reader ?

why should i need a reader ?

I have a CC with a smart chip/card - but the reader wont for sure tell me anything new (except that my credit line again is down to almost 0 because of all that hardware purchases

So..why in real life do they sell mainboards with a smart card reader ?

(Would make more sense in europe maybe since almost all public phones work with smart chip "phone cards"..so you always know how much is still on the card....but somehow i think this is a bizarre feature and has no real value. As for the soyo board...but i like the front USB..that's nice !)
