Why should I care if I get a Gmail invite?

What's the big deal with GMail? It seems like it's really not that special, yet people are treating it like the Holy Grail of the Internet. Ban the word, indeed!

So what if I can search through my e-mail using the Google engine? I can find my stuff just fine by sorting my e-mail into folders in Outlook.

Convince me that I need it.

They usually sticky threads about popular things so that people don't create fifty million new threads about it every day. Then they lock all the new threads.

Why do you want someone to convince you? If you don't want or need it then who cares. I have an account and haven't used it once since I got it. I also prefer outlook, to me gmail is really pretty pointless, and I don't need someone to convince me otherwise.

Okay, you just confirmed what I've been thinking all the time. It seems pretty darn pointless to have an account if you have no problems with your current e-mail.

Now if simms is right, selling the invites might be a good idea if people are really THAT desperate to get one. What a bunch of saps...

Gmail got obsolete.
Gmail is free too. Spymac has a crappy user interface and the site is pretty slow imo. I'll stick with Gmail since it's free (only cost is our privacy 😛).

I think they'll have to take care of that privacy. I think Gmail is ok so far, it's not blocked at work yet either, har har.

If I got a GMail invite, I'd refuse it. I have an email account through my ISP, and that's more than good enough for me. GMail truly confuses me.

I saw the same kind of excitement when NetZero offered free internet. Now how many people use NetZero? Who even cares about NetZero? Other free emails will follow suit and it will just be another free email provider.

That's because NetZero keeps reducing its free plan. It went from unlimited usage to 40 hours a month to like 10 hours a month. It just keeps getting worse and worse ... Defenders of the free internet my a$$!

If Gmail reduced its storage space from 1GB to 500MB to 100MB then well, it would face the same fate as NetZero. The hype w/Gmail mainly has to do with it's parent company, Google. Spymac offers 1GB and same goes with Rediff or whatever but no one cares about them.

that's right, you can't compare Google and NetZero. Google isn't going anywhere.
