Why quote the OP?

Lately it seems worse than normal. Why in the world do people quote the OP when it's obvious you are responding to that? It's even more annoying when it's a long ass post and I want to read it on my blackberry.

Go ahead, quote me.

Because sometimes there's another person who ends up posting while you're writing out your reply.

if there is a chance of the person editing it out, then it is good

so mostly, it isn't needed
but sometimes it is good to retain the stupidity for posterity

I'm not changing my ways so you can more easily read stuff on your blackberry. Get the hell over it.

So? Are you both not responding to the same post? If you respond to something other than the OP you should quote.

I agree that if its an idiotic post a quote is necessary to ensure ownage, but really is it necessary all the time? It never fails, someone quotes the OP. Most of the time they are just adding a response, not responding to a single point in the OP, and even if it was just a response to a single response in the OP, quoting just what you are responding to is necessary.

I just find it very annoying scrolling through the OP a couple times over on my Blackberry.

That's a good reason. The post quoting I hate are when someone makes a long ass post and then someone quotes the whole damn thing just to give them a thumbsup or smilie. Retards.

You did for this post and I was fully capable of understanding that you were responding to my OP.

Well then don't complain..

Oh and a word of advice... If you see a thread starting out with "A man was walking in the desert..." Dont click on it from your blackberry... You will want to kill yourself.

You're contributing to your own problem by not trimming the quotes. I'm not gonna make it any easier for you.

well, here's a short example to make it easier to read on your bb:

Let's say your OP is "man beats wife with tuna. forces her to clean up fishy smell afterwards".
Responder 1 says "wtf is wrong with you? he shouldn't beat her at all"
Responder 2 [thinking he's the first to respond] says "something something something i agree"

now, who did he agree to? as responder 2 was typing his post, responder 1 got his response in.

easy right? ;)

You can press/hold down the spacebar to quickly page through text in the BlackBerry's browser. That should help a little?
