Know a guy that spent 15yrs in prison for exactly that. Guy lived in a pretty bad neighborhood, and the police did a no knock raid on his house by mistake (they were after the neighbors across the street) in the middle of the night.

He awoke to his front door being bashed in with an ax, grabbed a 38 revolver and fired twice through the door hitting an officer in the arm.
The fact the police had no warrant for his address and didn't anounce themselves didn't keep his ass out of jail, and we have some of the toughest castle doctrine laws of any state.

Yeah, there are several other stories like that too. Still, if my door gets kicked in during the middle of the night and nobody announced themselves I will be firing a few slugs at whoever is coming in. I wont be taking chances with my life and the life of my GF.

I'd like to see no-knocks made illegal. Either identify first, clearly and loudly, or wait until the guy comes out. Even if it means a couple of perps get away it's not worth the mess that is no-knock.

This. If police do not announce themselves then a homeowner should not be held responsible for the casualties he inflicts defending his home during entry.
