Why people on the internet suck so much

Humans are inherently sinful and thus feel the need and desire to be tools to other people when they can get away with it. Just a thought.

For instance, some of the replies to this thread will illustrate my point.

Why do you think it is? Why do you think people do it?

The anonymity of the internet allows people to be jerks without any repercussions.

This doesn't supply an underlying cause. Ok, they can get away with it. But why do people want to be nasty?

Because deep down, some people are truly nasty.

So, you're one of those old school 17th century New England people?

People are just as big of pricks in real life. The reason why the internet seems to be full of so many more of them is that all the nice people are off living their lives while the bitter a-holes are all online trying to dispose of their aggravation.

Your mother and I talked about this just the other night after you brought it up at dinner. Please find a girl friend.

Besides the anonymity, another big reason imho is the demography. A lot of internet users are relatively young who tend to be more immature and antagonistic.

The internet provides a medium for stupid people to have their stupid opinions read by thousands of people. Therefore, these stupid opinions tend to be commented on by people who recognize them as such, which leads to "people on the internet sucking" as you put it. Case in point...

While this is very true there is a deeper meaning.

There are no REAL consequences to actions. Sure there have been isolated incidences but apart from those actions (posting) carry no consequences.

This is in direct conflict with real life. The reason why people are dicks is because they express the things they feel every day but can not due to the consequences they would suffer.

If you said a lot of the things posted on the intarweb that you truly felt and wanted to say in your day to day life there would be consequences. Be it getting your face kicked in, being fired, losing your wife or alienating your children...it doesn't matter. There are no real consequences.

Yep the lack of consequences afforded by the anonymity is probably the biggest reason. Though you really need people who are jerks to begin with. Go to a professional-dominated forum and you will not see the level of asshatery exhibited here, even with less moderator action and just as much anonymity.

Although I must say it can be very entertaining to watch the flamefests.

Too bad that a lot of the people I've meet online (especially XBOX LIVE) have been real jerks end up being shrimpy 12 year olds who should be living off their lives as nice kids.

I'd say it's probably a mix of many different things--anonymity, impersonality (i.e., there isn't a true relationship formed between you and the other speaker as there would be in real life), demographics, and who knows what else.

OP, I don't know any way to say this gently or gentlemanly, so I'm just gonna say it.

Were you born a retarded fucking idiot, or did you have to work at it a bit? j/k

(trying to go along with the spirit of how badly people on the internet suck)

Actually people are inherently good and kind. Though so many people are miserable to the point that they can only focus on negative actions.
You just have a piss poor outlook on life and most likely give off an energy that draws in negativity.
