because we're getting fatter and fatter and fatter.

whens the last time you saw an attractive obese person? not just based on their bodies but their face as well. weight gain goes to their face as well and it ain't pretty.

i bet there are a ton (pun intended) of fat folks in this world would be smoking hot if they kept in shape, you wouldn't believe it...

i feel bad for our children and grandchildren.

i went to wally world yesterday and it was amazing how many fatties were around. i don't know whether wally world attracts a higher than usual number of fatties or whether the other places i go attract a higher than usual number of health sized people or whether i just notice the fatties more at wally world. every time i go to wally world i feel like going to the gym and hitting the treadmill for two hours immediately afterward.

Since I've moved back into the suburbs I've noticed much more fatties, which is probably an obvious connection. These are the people who drive everywhere, never workout, and go to Costco to eat 2x hot dogs for $2. They are extremely ugly too, which makes me want to blow chunks and workout...

at least I get some inspiration out of it I guess?

people get married, have kids, and move out to the burbs.

there's a direct correlation between cohabitation with your significant other and being a fatty.

I'm stuffing my fat face and thinking about your rising medical insurance rates because of fat people like me as I read this thread, and I still just don't give a flying shit.

Yeah, I've though "that person would be decent looking if only they weren't fat" many times before.

it seems like there are a lot of fatties around everywhere. i see news stories showing people from other countries and i'll notice that they're all skinny! not here. you cannot get an out on the street news bit w/o an obese person in it.

Either way your arguement is flawed. We have a genetic potential to have a certain shaped body, which is what gets passed down to children. That's like saying that people who get lung cancer from smoking will increase the chances of their offspring to get lung cancer.

i'd like to see your genetics make you fat if you stop stuffing your face with food 10 times a day and hitting up the gym 3x a week.

So you can change your DNA now simply by smoking or eating a lot? You might wanna take another bio class :Q

I had a neighbor who was a dead ringer for Cindy Crawford in the face (back in the early 90s when Cindy was the hot thing), but was ~40-50 pounds overweight. Twas a shame (though her weight contributed to a great rack).

Maybe we just need to encourage smoking and cocaine use? Though I'm not sure if I'd rather see a chick with smoker teeth or a fattie body...

And you'd probably get it too if it weren't for your personality.

Yep, and this MORE than proves that the propensity for obesity is genetic:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8452057

A number of studies, including the Danish adoption study, have shown that, in adults, the familial resemblance of obesity, as measured by the body mass index (weight in kg/(height in m)2), is mainly due to genes. The body mass index may reflect both fat and fat-free body mass. In this further analysis of the Danish adoption study, the degree of obesity was assessed by a silhouette score. There was a significant relationship in scores between the adult adoptees and their biological mothers and between the adoptees and their biological full siblings reared by the biological parents. Weaker, nonsignificant associations were found for the biological fathers and for the maternal and paternal half-siblings. There were no relationships in silhouette scoring between adoptees and adoptive parents. The results confirm the results of our previous analysis of body mass index. We conclude that human obesity is under genetic control, whereas the childhood family environment has little, if any, influence on obesity in adults. It is an important task for future research to identify the genes involved.

That sounds nice and all...but I've known PLENTY of people who have swung either way. They were exceptionally skinny until they got married/got a stressfull job/etc. Now their huge, obese fatties. On the other side of the scale, I've known people who have been fatties since they were little and now they are in shape string beans.

Do genetics play a part...absolutely! But it is my opinion that nearly anyone can overcome those genetics with some hard work/self discipline*. When I was growing up, not all of my siblings were as smart as the other...but my parents still held all of us to the same standards with our studies. Sure some of us had to work harder than others to do as well as we did...but saying "I'm just not as smart as XXXXX" was never an option/excuse. And you know what...we benefited from that and are all very successful. Maybe we should keep that same "no excuse" mentality so that it isn't "normal" to be unhealthy/fat just because "we're not genetically inclined".

* There are exceptions just like any generalization...but they are EXCEPTIONS...not ever god damn fatty who wants to feel ok with themselves about choking down a Big Mac, Fries, and a Coke.
