Why open source software will not appeal to "joe blow"

Everyone keeps saying if you just want a word processor. Well if you just want a word processor grab abiword, its worlds better then OO's word program.

Well it's defianately faster and more pleasent to use.. but occasionally it's has it's bugs and such.

But then again, you can just install both.

Then you might as well throw Gimp in there.. and that new version of inkscape seems pretty hot, too. ;)

GIMP is a cracking alternative to something like photoshop - I even use it on my windows partition!

I use abiword on windows at work (even with MS office installed because I like it a little better). I also use scribus and inkscape at home both are very nice programs. I like gimp, but i perfer the photoshop interface. I'm actually looking at getting a mac just for that purpose.
