Why only 8gig on 30gig HD?

I got a brand new Abit KT7-Raid and a IBM DTLA307030. When connected to the ATA66 controller I can only use 8gigs. (on my old Epox MVP3E-board 30gig where displayed) Connected to the Raid controller partition magic shows the 30gig.
What would I have done if had bought the KT7 without Raid?

And I can't create any FAT32 partitions that exceed the first 8gig.
Guess that is due to the old Version (3.0) of Partition magic.

Can please someone explain these behaviors?
