Why on earth do baseball managers insist on arguing with umpires?

I find it extremely stupid that so many managers these days argue with umpires (especially one named Bobby Cox of the Braves... who gets ejected like 10 times a year on average and to my knowledge has never overturned a decision before). I've never EVER seen an umpire overturn a previously made decision unless another umpire insists that he had the better view and saw something different. All that ever happens is the manager gets ejected. Are they trying to "stick up" for their players or something? If they really don't want to manage a major league baseball team i'll gladly take over for them. Anyways, what is the point of arguing with umpires if the chances are basically 0 that you'll get anything done?

Well, most managers sit in the hallway near the locker room and manage anyways so you might as well get out there and b*tch someone out if you felt your team was given a bad call.....

They do it for two reasons 1. To protect their players and 2. To keep the umps honest. You have to let him know it was a bad call so the next time he'll think twice about. This is pretty common baseball knowledge. BTW, Cox and Glavine had a legitimate bitch about that call.

Umm, I've seen numerous times where after a manager's come out to argue the umps discussed the play and changed the call.

I think its in their contracts...........:D

And if you had the power to walk down to the ump and let him know when he was (this is were the explicative portion of the discussion would probably begin), you would too........:)

Last week I saw a manager convince a umpire to change a call by saying a fan interferred with the play and it worked. He changed the call.

The point isn't to get the umps to change their mind, ya just gotta let them know that they owe you one. Entertainment value is also a reason. :D

If an ump changes a call strictly because the manager gets in his face he won't be an ump very long.
Managers raise hell just to let the umps know they're being watched and to stand up for their players.
