Why on Earth are they 2 days?

In this mess of applying to schools of music at universities, I have to select a preferred audition date from the list that they have them. But some schools have dates available like "March 5-6, 2004." Well, what if I'm available the 5th, but not the 6th? I don't know what to check off!

Anywho, I've emailed admissions to try and find out, in the meantime I was wondering if you guys had any insight.

Well, when applying for doctoral programs, you get interviewed. For one of the programs I was looking at, they have a brunch with the applicants on one day, than personal interviews the next.

This is just undergrad, and even the places that do interviews say they immediately follow your audition.

maybe it's like a job interview, if they like you, you come back for a second interview, where they pretty much give you the job. either they weed out bad applicants the first day, or they set aside 2 days just to make sure you are available if needed. or they set the second day for campus tours for those that made the cut. imagine having to fly back couple weeks later to do a second audition if you lived far away.. that'd suck more than setting aside an extra day.

besides, isn't getting into the damn univerisity pretty imporant? something that should precede your other responsibilities? unless you have a wedding to goto or something..

If this is the case, I really wish it would describe that somwhere in their application process. 😉 However, it mentions nothing about callbacks or screening processes or anything.

As for the importance, yes, of course it's important, but I'm auditioning at 9 schools. Audition dates are beginning to overlap. 😱

Just got the response from one of the schools:

The piano faculty are available each day of each audition weekend to listen to auditions. The best way of ensuring that you receive an audition date that will work for you, is to submit your audition application as soon as possible. We schedule prospective students by the date we receive each application. Please indicate on your application which dates work best for you and we will do our best to honor your request.
