Why not use LNG in aviation?

I have always wondered why they can't use LNG in aviation. I would think it would be lighter, more cost efficient, better MPG and cleaner.

Look up Boeing's SUGAR program. LNG is viable but it would require a completely new aircraft design built around the tanks. The aviation industry would also need an infrastructure overhaul to support LNG. It sounds great on paper but real world cost risk is enormous.

Agree infrastructure is a big reason, probably the main one. Nobody wants to build two full supply and handling chains to every airport, one is expensive enough. Plus, leaks become an even worse problem, so the LNG infrastructure might be even more expensive than the normal one.

Energy density is likely another, it's why H2 powered planes never really took off (hey o), despite some good reasons to use it. Although LNG is much better in that respect compared to H2.
