Why not to mess with marines

Semper Fidelas, MFer. A group of 30 marines was ambushed by 250 insurgents, repelled them, and inflicted heavy casualties with no marines killed.

As Russell Crowe once said, "Damned Fine Gunnery."

http://www.military.com/news/a...nts-pay-the-price.html

?The day started out with a 10-kilometer patrol with elements mounted and dismounted, so by the time we got to Shewan, we were pretty beat,? said a designated marksman who requested to remain unidentified. ?Our vehicles came under a barrage of enemy RPGs (rocket propelled grenades) and machine gun fire. One of our ?humvees? was disabled from RPG fire, and the Marines inside dismounted and laid down suppression fire so they could evacuate a Marine who was knocked unconscious from the blast.?

The vicious attack that left the humvee destroyed and several of the Marines pinned down in the kill zone sparked an intense eight-hour battle as the platoon desperately fought to recover their comrades. After recovering the Marines trapped in the kill zone, another platoon sergeant personally led numerous attacks on enemy fortified positions while the platoon fought house to house and trench to trench in order to clear through the enemy ambush site.

For those who read the entire article, I can almost hear the TF2 Sniper: Thanks for standing still, wanker.

Everything I know about marines comes from the movie Full Metal Jacket.

Oh, and that old guy on the history channel...

edit and the commercial with the guy rock climbing in the desert, who gets to the top and does the He-Man transformation into a marine uniform. I think he also fights a dragon or something.

During the battle, the designated marksman single handedly thwarted a company-sized enemy RPG and machinegun ambush by reportedly killing 20 enemy fighters with his devastatingly accurate precision fire. He selflessly exposed himself time and again to intense enemy fire during a critical point in the eight-hour battle for Shewan in order to kill any enemy combatants who attempted to engage or maneuver on the Marines in the kill zone. What made his actions even more impressive was the fact that he didn?t miss any shots, despite the enemies? rounds impacting within a foot of his fighting position.

?I was in my own little world,? the young corporal said. ?I wasn?t even aware of a lot of the rounds impacting near my position, because I was concentrating so hard on making sure my rounds were on target.?

Video games FTW. I am positive that video games help in this kind of thing.

I wonder if any studies have confirmed this. I seem to remember something that indicated faster reaction times among FPS gamers.

My extensive knowledge exceeds yours because I've also seen Jarhead.

And he's House's dad!

Ermy was even promoted after he was discharged (medical) from the Marines for actions in furtherance of interests of the Marine Corps.

Its sad that stories like these are not playing on the evening news alongside the economy. Sure there is some propaganda mixed in but we cannot forget that we still have thousands of people over there fighting and dieing. I think in the last couple months its really gotten lost what is going on in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sounds like a Silver Star or Navy Cross might be in order.

?The biggest thing to take from that day is what Marines can accomplish when they?re given the opportunity to fight"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like these, there might be a lot of young soldiers still alive in both theatres, had the anti-war crowd just kept their mouths shut and let these guys do their job. No doubt Afghanistan is a more popular war front, but the enemy will adapt and find a way to influence our big weakness, that I noted above. No doubt, this article will be followed by reports that the combatants were actually civillians, and that the marines killed all of them at a wedding party.

Give it up, butt-wipe. Why ruin a perfectly good thread with your partisan self-serving horse crap? You are a pitiful little man ...

WTG, Marines. ?Hoo-ah!?

They didn't comment on the air support ... wonder if it was Spooky ???

No doubt if that were true you'd still be on the side of the marines.

In the 4/7th Cavalry in Rep of Korea, we would just use our unofficial motto "Shoot Em in the Face!"

Three cheers to the Marines.

Those were some well trained, war hardened, Marines.

Yep. Did you read any of the comments? The first one dated 11/23:

"...The 'young corporal' is a friend of mine and I just received an email from him...he has been nominated for the Silver Star Medal.

Well done..."

Oohrah!
