Why not to buy from Compaq .... *UPDATE* Airborne lost my package!!! ....

Compaq sucks, plain and simple. I mean in the past I have had Compaq products and never had a problem, but this is the second time I have had the displeasure of using their "tech" support. Like many people, I took advantage of the Costco/Compaq deal a few months ago and purchase a customized Presario 1500T laptop for $400 off of list price . The laptop arrived 3 days after my order, much to my suprise because it was expected to take at least 10 days.

The laptop was really sleek and worked well the first couple of months. Then one day I go to power it up, and nothing. No lights, no sounds, no whirring noises, nada! I called compaq and was transferred around multiple times before I got someone willing to help me. (see this thread for another crappy experience). They send out an airborne box, I pack it up and get the Airborne guy to pick it up. Turns out the motherboard had burnt up, even though I had it on a UPS/surge. Several days later, it arrives back from the factory. I try to power it up and guess what, no sounds, lights, noises, or whirring sounds! Called tech support, was pinged around for about 15 mnutes, and finally spoke to a manager.

I was so frustrated with Compaq, I took it out on the poor guy. How in the hell do you repair a laptop and send it out in the same condition it was in when I sent it in? Plus, there was a screw loose and bouncing around inside the laptop. I got to send it straight back to Compaq support where it has been for over a week and still not done yet.

So not only did Compaq not fix the laptop at all, every time I call them it takes 15-30 minutes before I get the right "department". I will never buy a Compaq product again, that's for damn sure!



update:

Great! Airborne Express lost my package on the way back from the Compaq shop. I have to wait 4 days before they will reimburse Compaq, then I get to pick a new laptop. They better give me a nice damn laptop for all of my trouble so far. I'm glad I did a backup before I sent it out, sheesh!

yea big corp Customer service is a pos who else doesn't know that..

I guess we just gotta deal with it..

Well I have actually gotten good support from big corps before, but you are probably right. That's why smaller regional companies get the business that the big guys sluff off, for the quality service and support.

We are in the same boat.

But DON'T give up! Keep at 'em. Don't hesitate to mention that there is a current discussion on Compaq "Service" on AT Forums.

Dell Management is finally getting serious about my case. The made 3 calls to me this afternoon and I have a phone appointment with a Dell manager tomorrow morning. I'll post the results in my thread.

when u buy from these companies...ur best bet is pray it NEVER breaks down.
u got unlucky coz most times...they really don't.

My Compaq Presario 1500T laptop and Dell Dimension 4550 desktop machines are working just fine :D

That is what I said about my notebook just before I sent it in for "routine" minor cosmetic stuff and battery problems.

;)

BTW, A Dell Tech suggested it is far better to remove the batteries completely from a notebook when it is on AC.

What is the Compaq you speak of? That company on longer exists.


But don't expect any improvement of tech support from HP!

I haven't called too many big companies before, but of the bigger ones I have called, I only really liked the tech support from:

Epson
Soltek

Intel was great one time when I had a celeron kick the bucket on me. i told them the problem and that i had tested the mobo and it was fine, and the gave me the RMA number. i shipped to them, they shipped a new one back to me. piece of cake.

goddamn they put me onhold for half an hour and i called it quits...i just wanted to know the status for the repair of my ipaq!!! SIGH...freakin compaq/hp ...

LOL! Well the laptop still says Compaq on it. I don't really care what name they take as long as they honor their warranty on their product.
