Why not sell at the highest clock speed?

If CPUs can be clocked higher than stock why doesn't AMD sell them at the highest speed and get more profits?

I think they generate more profit by selling at different clock speeds even though the CPU are capable of higher speeds.

Then, they get to capture the main stream market, high end market and also budget

Because overclocking is never guaranteed. Well, with the mobile Bartons it is, but they aren't selling them to be overclocked. They're supposed to be for upgrading your laptop.

certain chips are capable of doing better then other production week.

Yeah, AMD is still trying to build their reputation. They don't want to be known as the company that sells you a chip that won't do what it's rated for. Can you imagine how many people would never buy an AMD chip again, if they had to RMA 2 or 3 in a row, because it wouldn't run at it's "rated" speed?

For the same reason that Ford doesn't put the engine from its GT into every car it sells. The performance might be better, but not everyone is willing to pay for the extra horsepower and Ford doesn't want sell the extra horsepower for a price that undercuts its high end products like the GT.
