Why not register young voter's at concerts?

thousands of America's disinfranchised youth attend them every year, why not register young voters there?

Dude, it's been tried time after time. Even when you can get the "disinfranchised youth" to even register, which is rare, the "youth" rarely show up at the polls to exercise their right to vote.

I suppose the "disinfranchised youth" would rather remain disinfranchised and whine and complain rather than actually getting off their collective butts and standing in line and voting. It's really horrid......voter participation of the 18-24 year old group is pathetic at best......less than 25% participated in the last presidential election and much less bothered to show up to vote in the off-year mid-term elections two years ago. It's been a trend that began after the second election of Nixon in 1972 and has not reversed itself yet despite all attempts to engage the youth in the voting process.

On the other hand, the age group of vothers who are 60 and above consistently turn out to vote in numbers that approach 70-80% in presidential elections and hover around 60-70% in off-year mid-term elections.

So, in the ten, public policy is driven by the officials we elect........and the officials are usualy elected by the older segment of the population, so policy tends to favor, at least on social issues, those who vote in greater numbers. After all, the elected officials DO know the kids don't vote and older people do vote, so who'd you cater to? A bunch of whiney kids who can talk a bunch of smack but won't follow up with a simple action, or the group that actually bothers to follow through with going to the polls and voting?

I think you'll see more and more social policy being skewed towards the older segment of the population because of just that fact.....the older block of voters just has more power, is better organized (can you say AARP?), and seems to give just enough of a crap to go vote on issues, especially local ones that REALLY affect them.

So let 'em whine and complain and bleat about being left out and disinfranchised.......it's their own damn fault....they're making that choice to be left out of the system.

self centered youth you mean? Hell it wasn't that long ago for me. but Damn the candidates don't give to squirts for the youth vote as they vote mostly along their parents party lines and do not come out in droves like the elderly do.

the last 3 concerts i went to had voter registration booths AND armed forces recruit booths.
