With the new phones using USB-C I'd love to replace all my microUSB cables with them. I would think western digital would have already switched their passport line to it.

Lacie is the only one I see who's announced an external drive like that.:colbert:

has anyone heard of others?

Same here.

Although I think we're stuck on type A and micro B for a while yet. Biggest reason being compatibility with existing sockets.

Sort of a chicken and egg thing, cant have a chicken(USB-C) without the Egg(USB-C computers)

Now unless you want to get really confusing, are you talking about USB-C as the physicall connector only or usb-c as the usb 3.1 transfer speeds as well as you could have a usb-c physical connector that is still usb 2.0

The physical connector. I'm fine with it still being usb3.0

Compared to USB 2.0 -> 3.0, it's going to take forever for 3.1 and Type-C to see mainstream adoption. Bandwidth and power wise USB 3.0 was a massive improvement over 2.0, and its still already good enough for the foreseeable future.

Even on the latest Skylake chipsets 3.1 and Type-C aren't baseline features which will make the speed of adoption worse.
