Question why not more boards with sodimms?

sodimms take up less space on a motherboard. i would think more manufacturers would use sodimms because they take up less space on the boards.

(generally) more expensive, not always a great idea, generally also can be lower performance, due to form-factor and traces. (Most SO-DIMMs require the chips to be in two rows of four, rather than one row of eight, thus traces to the further chips are longer.
