Why no STORAGE forum??

Just wondering... (the General hardware isn't the place for HD's / controlers, ATA, SATA, SCSI, CDs, Optical, Tape...) couldn't one of the low thread count forums be renamed?

If General Hardware was for discussion on new bits of General Hardware, and all the "help my computer doesn't work" was in the Technical Support forum, then storage questions would belong more in GH.

I really think they need to move the Tech Support forum to the top of the forum listing, above GH, then hopefully more people will start using that instead of GH for their support needs.

And as for new forums, the answer will probably be:

General and Tech support are too (forgive me) 'general'...

I don't want to spend 30 minutes sifting thru 4 pages of posts on why someone can't burn something to CD before I get to something having to do with a "major" specific piece of hardware... Hard drives / controlers / motherboards / video cards... After all, these are the major components in all PCs... Not to mention the fact that there is a video and motherboard forum in here... Why not (I'll say it again) "Storage"... There's even a "storage" tab on the Anandtech front page nav. links (among video / motherboard etc. etc. tabs)... Obviously someone over there thought it important enough to add that.. (and not name it "general hardware"...)

It only makes sense, and it'd be the right thing to do...

It's not enough to just accept the fact that I'm right. A Storage forum would be the right thing to do... READ my post dude...

Better yet..... Why the hell have different topics? Why don't we all just come to a big SEEEEAAAARRRRCH button when you enter the forums... How's that sound... Then there wouldn't be any question...

ok tough guy..just b/c YOU think its the thing to do doesnt mean it is. I really dont understand why you would click through 4 pages of threads in the gen hardware forum when you could just search for what youre looking for.

Itd be stupid to have one big search feature, OT and Hot Deals would die. And probably a lot of other sections. They spread the areas out the best they can so just live with it.

GH needs to be moved to the bottom of the forum listing, or, subject specific threads need to be moved to the right bit of the forum, or locked. A few weeks of the Mods locking down on it, and people will hopefully learn.

Someone I was talking to a little while ago suggested that all members should be forced when they're signed up to go in a "Search Loop" like 50 times, to get them used to the damn search button!

If locks are given, they need to give the usual explanation - This is not HARDWARE related. Otherwise, you'll get lots of people posting "Why was my thread locked, mods are mean, whine, etc."

This forum needs a search engine like Google maybe - or something intelligent that'll look for multiple forms of the word. For the forum, HDD does not equal hard drive, so to search for all threads on "hard drive controllers," you may need to look for:
ATA controllers
ATA adapters
PCI IDE card
HDD controller
disk controller card
etc etc etc

Subscribing helps with the search significantly - full-text searches of the text, not just titles. Sometimes people don't put relevant info in the title. A thread that contains info on hard drives can be titled "OMG, I SCREWED UP MY PC!!! HELP!!!!!"
But not everyone wants to subscribe either.
